National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Posted on September 30, 2023

On September 30, in communities across the nation, Catholic health care providers participate in the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, acknowledging the suffering experienced in Canada’s Indian Residential Schools. We commit to creating safe and healing space for all we serve and pray for healing and wisdom as we continue our journey of reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

In honour of this day, the Catholic Health Alliance of Canada compiled Prayers for Justice and Healing. To view these prayers please click here or the button below.

Truth and Reconciliation Day is recognized nationally and is a solemn day to stop and reflect on what role we can play in reconciliation beyond this one day. In a letter to the faithful Archbishop Miller said, “as Catholics we are morally bound to confront the truth of our past and to engage actively in the journey towards reconciliation.” Saying “it is through truth-telling that we confront our shared history,” he invited Catholics “to take time to listen with an open heart and mind to the stories and experiences of Indigenous Peoples.” Click here to read more.
